Forging Research Collaboration with Japan, RG Metals UNS Tests Advanced Material Endurance at Gifu University

RG METALS – Taking another strategic step to strengthen its international research network, the Metals Research Group (RG) from Sebelas Maret University (UNS) has established a research collaboration with Gifu University, Japan. This partnership focuses on fatigue testing of innovative welded joints, a crucial phase in ensuring material reliability. This collaboration involves the head of RG Metals, Prof. Dr. Triyono, ST., MT., IWE, and Prof. Yoshihiko Uematsu, a leading expert in material fatigue from Gifu University.

The discussion and sample handover took place directly at the material strength testing laboratory at Gifu University. Fatigue testing is a critical process to determine a component’s lifespan under repeated loading conditions. For RG Metals, which is actively developing innovative welding technologies like Friction Stir Welding (FSW), understanding the fatigue life of their welded joints is essential to guarantee safety and long-term reliability, especially for critical applications.

Prof. Uematsu, who has extensive experience in the field, will directly supervise the testing process in his laboratory. This collaboration not only provides RG Metals with access to world-class testing facilities but also opens opportunities for joint international publications. “The test results will be a valuable asset for both institutions,” said Prof. Uematsu.

“This is not just about testing; this is about validating the quality of our FSW technology on an international stage,” stated Prof. Triyono. “A partnership with a reputable institution like Gifu University helps us build a global reputation and confirms that the material innovations we develop meet the highest standards of strength and endurance.”
